About Us
Falaj Energy plans, builds and runs energy facilities across the Gulf, Iraq and the Caspian. We present that work here — we do not sell anything through this site.
Falaj was founded in Muscat in 2004 by a group of engineers who had spent the previous decade commissioning other people's plants and watching design decisions made by people who would never have to operate the result. The company was set up on the opposite principle: take the operatorship, and let that shape the engineering.
Twenty-two years on, we operate nineteen facilities across Oman, Iraq and Kazakhstan, and hold technical or delivery roles on projects in three more countries. The portfolio runs from wellhead to polymer — field developments, gas processing, pipelines and terminals, refining revamps and, since 2021, a group-wide emissions programme held to the same reporting discipline as production.
We employ around 3,800 people. Roughly four in five are nationals of the country they work in, and the two engineering centres — Muscat and Aberdeen — carry the subsurface and process disciplines in-house rather than contracting them in. That is a deliberate cost: it is also why we can take operatorship of a plant we designed and staff it on day one.
No production target justifies an unsafe act. Work stops when a hazard is identified and stays stopped until it is closed — and the person who stopped it is not asked to justify the delay.
Designing a facility we will run ourselves changes the decisions we make in engineering. Maintainability outranks first cost, because we are the ones maintaining it in fifteen years.
Our flaring programme began by metering every flare tip before a single mitigation project was approved. Estimated numbers make comfortable reports and bad decisions.
Long-term operations depend on local engineers, technicians and suppliers. We hire and train where we work, and every graduate entrant spends a rotation on an operating site.
